What is counseling like with Deepwater?

During the first session, you and your therapist will begin to get to know each other. This is the time for you to begin to share your story. You’ll talk about what you want to achieve from counseling and set some goals. The second session allows you and your therapist to dig even deeper into your story. Your therapist will also develop what’s called a “treatment plan.” Think of it as a road map of your healing journey that helps bring focus and direction to your sessions. Subsequent sessions focus on getting to the root of your pain, plus developing techniques that you can practice between sessions to help you gain insight, reduce negative symptoms, practice healthy coping skills, and improve your overall well-being.

Do you accept insurance?

We are in network with Blue Cross Blue Shield, Blue Care Network, and Medicare. (Please note that we are not in network with Blue Cross Complete, which is a type of Medicaid.) Prior to your first session, we will check your benefits for you and let you know if you have a co-pay, co-insurance, or deductible to meet. (Basically, what you may or may not owe per session.) Unfortunately we are not always given accurate information from the insurance companies, and it can take anywhere from three to eight weeks for us to receive what’s known as an ERA, or electronic remittance advice. The ERA details how much the insurance company actually covers and lets us know if we need to make adjustments. So, it is possible that you may be owed a refund or that you may owe more than was originally quoted. While we do our best to give you the most accurate information prior to you staring therapy with us, we are unfortunately limited to what the insurance company relays to us. It is therefore highly advisable that you contact your insurance company directly with any questions or concerns!

What about out of network benefits?

If you have a PPO plan with an insurance company that we don’t accept, you still might be able to be reimbursed for some or all of your therapy. How does this work? Your first step would be to contact your insurance company and ask them if they accept superbills for out-of-network providers, and if so, how much they will reimburse you. If you would like to work with us, we will schedule you with a fully licensed therapist. (Out of network benefits may only be used with fully licensed therapists and not limited licensed or interns.) You will need to pay the full rate of the session, and then your therapist will give you what’s called a “superbill.” This is basically a receipt with diagnostic and service codes that you submit to your insurance company for partial of full reimbursement. Please note that we can’t guarantee reimbursement so it’s best to contact your insurance company prior to staring therapy with us.

How much do appointments cost?

If you are using insurance, the cost of your treatment will be dependent on your specific plan. Should you need to meet a deductible, or you’re paying out of pocket, our rates are as follows: Initial intake: $175.50, individual therapy sessions, $150.00, family and/or couples therapy, $140.00. For those who are uninsured or who do not wish to use their insurance, we offer $25 sessions therapy interns. We accept cash, check, all major credit cards, flexible health savings cards, and health savings account cards. Payment is due at time of service.

Do you offer a sliding scale rate?

We have a limited availability of sliding scale spots available.

How long are sessions?

Sessions typically last about 55 minutes for individual therapy, and about 45 minutes for family and couples counseling.

Do you offer telehealth appointments?

Yes! Most of our therapists offer telehealth, or online therapy sessions, for those located anywhere in Michigan.

Do you offer in-person appointments?

Yes! We offer both in-office and outdoor walk and talk sessions.

What types of therapy do you offer?

All of our counselors use an “eclectic” style, meaning they draw from a few different modalities in order to best meet the needs of the client. Some of the types of therapy we offer include: cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), prolonged exposure therapy, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing therapy (EMDR), walk and talk, family and couples, mindfulness-based, motivational interviewing, person centered, play therapy, solution-focused, trauma-focused, strength-based, and more.

Where are you located?

We are located in the Arlington Square building at the southeast corner of Washtenaw Ave. and Huron Parkway in Ann Arbor. Our address is 3300 Washtenaw Ave, suite 222.

What is your cancellation policy?

Appointments cancelled with at least 24 hours notice will not be charged a late cancellation fee and your therapist will try to accommodate you by rescheduling in the same week if possible. Appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours or “no-shows” will be charged the entire session fee. (Please note that insurance will not cover this fee.) We charge a late cancellation fee for several reasons. Your therapist reserves a certain day and time just for you. We understand that sometimes, life happens – traffic jams, sick kids, etc. – however to receive the maximum benefit from your therapy, you have to come to therapy! We have found that those who really commit to their sessions and see therapy as an invaluable investment of time, money, and energy, often make the best progress.

Do you offer psychiatry services/medication?

Deepwater Counseling does not have psychiatrists on staff. We employ licensed professional counselors and social workers who may diagnose and treat mental health disorders with psychotherapy. Counselors and social workers in the state of Michigan cannot prescribe medication. However, we are happy to make referrals to outside providers who may prescribe medication. You are also encouraged to speak with your primary care physician, who may be able to prescribe psychotropic medications (e.g., antidepressants).

Can I schedule a consultation before committing to a full appointment?

We do not offer free consultations, as it generally takes a few sessions to see if you and your therapist will be a good fit. If you give several sessions a try and don’t feel it’s a good fit, we will be happy to schedule you with another therapist.

What is a good faith estimate?

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” (GFE) explaining how much your medical care will cost. Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services. Please click here to view our full GFE statement.
